This assignment can be completed using your devices and the Garageband App

You will compose your first original song. 
Any style, any genre, anything you want! 


Song MUST have the following form 
Verse - 16 measures
Verse - 16 measures
Hook or Chorus - 8 measures

BREAK - measures
Hook or Chorus - 8 measures

USE Arrangement Track in GB







You are going to create a song that contains 2 sections. Think verse and chorus! 
Section 1 - 12 measures - at least 8 tracks
Section 2 - 12 measures - at least 8 tracks
Use loops, record original tracks, Nano Pads, etc. 


Be Creative, Think outside your musical comfort zone! 


Save file as SONG FORM 2 and your initials


For this assignment you are going to take clips from TV Shows, Movies, etc to create a 3:00 minute file. 
NO MUSIC! This assignment will focus on editing. 
All you will need is TWO TRACKS in Garageband.  



Go online and listen to the various TV, movie or historical speeches.Make a new file by taking words or phrases from the various speeches.Clips you use cannot be longer than 10-15 seconds eachFlie Length 3:00 minutes or longerExport final product as an MP3

In this assignment you are going to “tell” a story using sound effects and music.

Sound Effects Story Assessment - link will be active next week. 

Story - 6-8 paragraphs long
Music - at least 10 tracks 3 of the 10 must be recorded by you. No prerecorded songs. 
Length: 1:00 minute to 2:00 minutes long 

Step One – Finding a Story
Option 1 – You can find a story/poem online. material from English class, etc.

Option 2 – You can write your own story.

Step Two – Finding Words

Go through your story/poem and make a list of words that you will need to find sound effects for.
For example:
As the storm was howling I drove down the road as fast as I could.
The sound of the storm was like a freight train in the night.

Which words would you enhance with sound effects?

Step Three – Finding Sound Effects

1. In Garageband find the FX sounds.

Step Four – “Telling the Story”
Using the sound effects you found for your story/poem “Tell” your story. Sound effects must be placed in Garageband in the order found in your story. Leave space in between each sound effect to enhance the telling of the story.

Step Five – Music

Using the loops in Garageband create music that will enhance your story.
What kind of music would you create for a horror story? SCI FI?, etc The music is to enhance the story and not overpower.

In this assignment you will be creating a 2:30 (2 minute and 30 seconds) song.  It is called "Your Choice" because if you want to make a Rap Song, Hip Hop, Rock, Country, Jazz, etc - Its Your Choice! Want to switch from one genre to another during the 2:30 its Your Choice! 

Be creative and have fun!  
You will have until end of class Monday October 1 to complete this assignment.



At least 15 music tracks - 5 of the 15 must be originally recorded by you using Software Tracks and Keyboard/Device.

You must show volume and pan changes. 

Sound Effects do NOT count towards the 15 music tracks.  These are in addition to and you are welcome to use as you see fit.

Edit your song to create loops of the verse, chorus, etc of your song
Rearrange your song by taking the loops of your verse, chorus, etc to create a new arrangement of your song
Do you like it? If not, arrange it again.

The term musical form (or musical architecture) refers to the overall structure or plan of a piece of music; it describes the layout of a composition as divided into sections.

You are going to create a mixtape based on a theme of your choice. 

Step 1 - Select a theme
Examples of themes:
Social Issues (Race, Gender)
Women Rappers
Evolution of Hip-Hop
Music of a certain time period. 
You have to select a theme for your this assignment. 

Step 2 - Select 10 songs 
The 10 (or more) songs that you select must be associated with the theme you have selected. 
Step 3 Write Liner Notes
You are going to write 2-3 pages of Liner Notes. 
The Liner Notes must include how every song you selected is associated with your theme.  EX Lyrics, Overall message of song, musicians, pubishers, etc. 
You must write at least 2-3 paragraphs for each song. 
Use Google Docs throughout the week to write your Liner Notes. 

You will have one week to complete this assignment.  
A Google Form will be on the website on Friday for you to submit your songs (Youtube links) and submit your written out liner notes (Google Docs) 


What is a Mixtape? - A mixtape is a complation of favorite song recorded onto a cassette tape. Mixtapes became popular in the 1980's. 

Stems is a new format for music. Stems redefines creative live performance. A Stem file is an open, multi-channel audio file that contains a track split into four musical elements –bass, drums, vocals, and melody for example.
What is a Stem? 

In this assignment you are going to create your own Podcast/Radio Show! 

The Topic can be anything you wish! Sports, Music, Books, Music, Cars, BikesFashion Show, School Clubs/Sports etc. 

You can work with ONE other person for this assignment. 

Length  2:00-3:00 minutes in length - Longer is accepted 

You must come up with the script, structure, etc

You must record your script

Must have introduction with music

Must have ending with music

Recording your script in class using Garageband & USB Microphones OR use your device's audio recorder or recording APP 

Grading will be based on:
