Video game assignment will use Garageband 

1. Watch the video of game posted in the Google Classroom numerous times 
2. Make a list of all the events in the video that will need a sound effect.  Each physical event must have a sound effect.  Example: Car going off the road,  Car shifting gears, Cop Car coming into the frame, etc. 

3. Collect sound effects from Garageband, Soundbible.com and/or Youtube

4. Sync your sound effects with the action in the video
5. Compose and original score using loops, keyboard, samples, etc.
15 loops or more
Must show volume, pan and sweep automation
Music must enhance the action in the video
Export video when completed 
 

You will create two (2) podcasts of 15 minutes or longer. 
Topics: 1 must be an issue affecting high school students. Mental Health, Social Media, etc
1 can be a topic of your choice

Length: 15 minutes or longer for both podcasts
Script: Outline or Word for Word
Flow: Podcast must have a flow and not just. um....um....hey....um....
Vocal Cleanup: You must use Vocal Cleanup function in Soundtrap after recording
 

You have been hired as the concert promoter for your favorite artist's concert at Torrington High School.  

As the promoter your job is the create the following for your artist: 
 

1. A 30 second audio commercial in Soundtrap. 

Scripts must have the who, what, when, where, why, ticket prices, special promotions, etc.  Edit music from your artist to create a musical bed for the commercial

2. Promotional video using Canva.
Use your 30 second commercial as the audio 
Add pictures/videos to create a 30 second video promotion
 

You will create two (2) podcasts of 15 minutes or longer. 
 

You will create a 30 audio commercial and 30 second video promotion

You will compose music for the video game posted in Google Classroom.

Sampling!

In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sound effects or longer portions of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated

Remixing with Stems
 

A remix is a new version of a piece of music that has been created by putting together the individual instrumental and vocal parts in a different way.

An audio stem 

Stems in music are packaged groups of multiple tracks that have been layered together. For example, a snare drum sound is a single track while a recording of an entire drum kit is a stem. Another is a single electric guitar track while four or five guitars layered on top of one another in a stem

Criteria for Assignment
Select ONE track to use as your remix. Delete the rest 
10 Loops (Not counting the vocal track) or more

1 minute in length or longer
Use Volume, Pan AND Sweep (yes all three)

Ways to keep your song interesting

Change tempo from the original
Cut up vocals
Use the sampler to create a new loop, vocal loop, etc
Use Time Stretch on a sample from the original vocal track. 
Explore different functions, take a chance, and Try something new!

Remixing with Stems

Playing with the Sampler
1. Import a song of your choice or search One-Shot Loops in Soundtrap
2. Listen to your song and split it into smaller sections

3. Select a small section of your choice and open it in the sampler 
4. Manipulate the section in the sampler to create a new sample
5. You must use at least one audio effect in creating the new sample
 

Record a Raw Sound and using the Sampler 

1. Create a new track and select Voice/Mic
2. Record a raw sound either your voice or an object in the room.
3. Open the raw sound that you recorded into the Sampler
4. Manipulate the raw sound to make a new sound.
5. You must use at least one audtio effect in creating the new sample

Assignment # 2 Composing With Samples! 
 

You have just been hired by your favorite artist to create a one-minute (or longer) song for their next concert tour. Your artist has requested that you use samples from their songs. 

Assignment Criteria 

You must share your assignment with me. If you don't share it I can't see it 
Click on the share (purple button in the upper right-hand corner) and enter WSplettstoeszer@torrington.org in the box 

1 Minute or longer - make sure your ruler is set to TIME and not Beats

You must use at least TWO SAMPLES from your artist in your song
(convert from YouTube into a mp3 and import into Soundtrap)

You must use the Sampler in Soundtrap to manipulate and change ONE of the samples you select. 

10 Tracks or more - Samples DO count towards the track count

You must show Volume, Pan, and Sweep (Yes all 3) in your song. 
 

You must use at least one audio effect. Your choice on which one and where

You will be using Soundtrap Digital Audio Workstation as your main application for this class.  You will have your own account and will be able to access Soundtrap on ANY device!   

You will need headphones for this class.  Earbuds or Bluetooth headphones will be fine. 
You MUST use the computers in the lab.  Your chromebooks will be limited at times with Soundtrap 

Google Classroom and this website will be used for all class assignments and materials
