In this assignment you are going to “tell” a story using sound effects and music.

Sound Effects Story Assessment - link will be active next week. 

Criteria
Story - 6-8 paragraphs long
Music - at least 10 tracks 3 of the 10 must be recorded by you. No prerecorded songs. 
Length: 1:00 minute to 2:00 minutes long 


Step One – Finding a Story
Option 1 – You can find a story/poem online. material from English class, etc.

Option 2 – You can write your own story.

Step Two – Finding Words

Go through your story/poem and make a list of words that you will need to find sound effects for.
For example:
As the storm was howling I drove down the road as fast as I could.
The sound of the storm was like a freight train in the night.

Which words would you enhance with sound effects?

Step Three – Finding Sound Effects

1. In Garageband find the FX sounds.

Step Four – “Telling the Story”
Using the sound effects you found for your story/poem “Tell” your story. Sound effects must be placed in Garageband in the order found in your story. Leave space in between each sound effect to enhance the telling of the story.

Step Five – Music

Using the loops in Garageband create music that will enhance your story.
What kind of music would you create for a horror story? SCI FI?, etc The music is to enhance the story and not overpower.
Save as: GB11 (Your initials)

Today we will learn about stems!

What is a stem? Why do we use stems?

Go in the Network Folder, open the folder named "Remix 2".

Pick one of the four stems available and remix it.

 

Use what you listened to yesterday to brainstorm ideas for your remix. What did you like about the remixes? What didn't you like? What was effective?

 

Your project must be:

At least 5 tracks, including the stem and a drum track.

        You may use loops and/or originally recorded tracks.

        No imported MP3s other than the stem.

Length of file - As long as the stem you choose.

Creative - Use what you've learned in previous classes to make it your own.

 

 

You will compose your first original song. 
Any style, any genre, anything you want!

This assignment can be exported as an MP3 and downloaded to your phone

 

To Export: - Go to SHARE then EXPORT SONG TO DISK. Select MP3 on bottom of window, select Desktop and click EXPORT.

You have been asked to create the THS Grammy Awards.  

You select the genre of music.  In the genre (Rap, Rock, Country, etc) that you select you are to award the following:

In this assignment you are going to create your own Podcast/Radio Show! 

The Topic can be anything you wish! Sports, Music, Books, Music, Cars, BikesFashion Show, School Clubs/Sports etc. 

You can work with ONE other person for this assignment. 

Length  2:00-3:00 minutes in length - Longer is accepted 

You must come up with the script, structure, etc

You must record your script

Must have introduction with music

Must have ending with music

Recording your script in class using Garageband & USB Microphones OR use your device's audio recorder or recording APP

Remix Trailer Assignment
You are going to select a movie trailer and "remix" it in Garageband
Your remix must change the meaning of the original movie. 

The Same Scene 5 Ways video is the same scene showed 5 times.  Each time the music changes to create a different mood/theme.

In this assignment you will do the same. You will create 2 separate moods/themes. What moods/themes you compose are your choice. Each one MUST be different. 

Each mood must have the following:
At least 5 tracks 
Volume and Pan automation
Audio effects - optional

 
How Music can change a Movie - Watch these videos.  How does music change the movie? 

Recut Trailer Assignment 

 

Once your trailer is in Garageband create a new musical score that changes the meaning or the original. 
Example: UP - Original is a children's movie,  Recut as a Horror Movie, etc. 

 

Criteria for Assignment

15 tracks or more of loops and/or recorded tracks.  NO MUSIC DOWNLOADED
Sound Effects can be used but will not be counted towards the 15 or more track count
