Robert Travaglini started teaching in the Torrington Public Schools in 1990. During his tenure in the Torrington Public Schools he taught all levels including band director at Torrington High School and Torrington Middle School plus as a traveling instrumental instructor at various elementary schools. While at Torrington High School he continued to push the band program forward. The Jazz Ensemble started to participate in the prestigous Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival in Boston, Massachusetts. The Concert Band continued to gain in numbers as they performed numerous concerts and civic events throughout the City of Torrington. In 1991 the Music Department traveled to Toronto, Canada to perform in the Festi-Val Music Festival where the Concert Band received a Superior Rating. In 1996 Travaglini took over the position of band director at Torrington Middle School. In working closely with Mr. Splettstoeszer at Torrington High School, Travaglini was instrumental in starting to bridge the cap between middle school and high school. As a result the band program at Torrington High School started to grow.
After leaving the Torrington Public Schools he became Assistant Principal at Horace W. Porter School in Columbia, Connecticut. Four years later Robert Travaglini became Principal of Dr. James H. Naylor Elementary School in Hartford, Connecticut. Since taking over the leadership position Naylor Elementary has received numerous awards for improvement including a Shinning Star Award which is awarded to schools in which the majority of students achieved goal range or high proficiency range in the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) or Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT). Robert Travaglini continues to lead Naylor Elementary School into the 21 Century through his hard work and dedication to the students of Hartford.
