Purpose: This course focuses on the major technologies in use today by music educators and music students in school programs. It is intended to prepare you with the technology knowledge and skills you will need as a music teacher in today's school programs. The course provides experience with the four major types of uses of technology by music teachers and students:

  1. Administrative/Communication
  2. Preparing Teaching Materials
  3. Leading Class Activities
  4. Student Uses of Technology

Rationale: The course is based on the belief that technology can:

  1. provide tools and resources for helping students become active agents in the growth of their music knowledge, attitudes, and skills
  2. Make a contribution to helping students make progress toward achieving the National Standards in Music: singing, playing, improvising, composing, reading and notating, listening, evaluating, understanding relationships with the arts and other disciplines, and understanding history and culture.
  3. help teachers prepare more effective music learning materials, and
  4. contribute to the development of new models of music learning through distributed partnerships for learning.

Course Outline
This course will concentrate on technology applications for the music classroom. Participants will get hands-on instruction using notation, sequencing, looped based and multimedia software. The course will also stress how to achieve the national standards using technology as well as teaching strategies.
