What does a sound system do? Where do you see sound systems?
Sound Systems come in all shapes and
sizes. The basic function of a sound system is to reinforce the sound.
Whether it is a public speaker with one microphone or a live band at the Meadows
the function is the same......to reinforce the sound.
You are
going to study the basics of a sound system. Mixers, speakers,
microphones, cords, cables, effects, signal processing, signal flow, etc
Analog Mixers (Mixing Boards,
Boards)
At the heart of every sound
system is a mixer. A mixer "mixes" the sound! You can call
it the control center of the sound system.
The mixer
receives signals from microphones, instruments, or tape recorders. The
signal is processed for level and tone which can then go to the outputs
(speakers).
Three
functions of a mixer
1. Changing the character of an individual sound -making it louder,
softer, brighter, fatter, etc.
2. Combining many sound together.
3. Blending (mixing) sounds together
