Music Technology I Half-Year Course 

Final Project/Final Exam ACID and Art

You will search the Internet for a piece of Artwork that you will use as the basis for an ACID Pro file.
1. Search the Internet for a piece of Artwork.  Ex. Painting, sculpture, etc.
Criteria for ACID File
1  Must be at least 2:30 (2 minutes and 30 seconds) in length.
2. Must have at least 15 loops
3. Must show volume and pan envelope changes
4. Must edit at least 2 loops in the Chopper.
5. Final product must be rendered as an MP3 or WAV.
6. Must write a 2-4 page paper that includes the following:
     a. Information about the Painting, sculpture, etc.
     b. Why did you select this specific piece of Art.
     c. How does the music you created reflect your Art. 
Final Project is due on/or before your final exam period. 

ACID Pro Assignment # 3 - Podcasting
Create a 2 minute Podcast using ACID PRO
Topic: Your choice - School group, sports team, music group, etc
Structure of Podcast: your choice
If your Podcast is about a music group - use music from that group as well as ACID Loops
If your podcast is about anything else you must use ACID Loops as your musical bed. 
Narration:  Use USB microphone
Final Product must be rendered as a W AV
What is a Podcast? "Podcast" means a specific type of Broadcast, where the Work is incorporated into a file (which may contain one or more works and/or other material) which may be played on an iPod or similar device by individuals who have downloaded such file.
1. Search the Internet for podcasts. Listen to various podcasts for structure
2. Make a list of good and bad for each

ACID Pro Assignment # 2 Techno/Dance Mix

Create a two (2) minute ACID File. 
Criteria
1. Must be at least 2:30 minutes in length. 
2. Must include at least 15 loops
3. Must show volume and pan envelope changes
4. Must edit 2 loops in the Chopper. 
5. Final product must be rendered as an MP3.

ACID Pro Assignment #1 Sound Effects Story

Sound Effects Story
Using parts of a short story or poem you will "tell" the story or poem using only sound effects and music. NO WORDS
1. Review your story or poem and make a list of all words/phrases you want to enhance using sound effects. 
2. Using the sound effects ACID folder and effects found online "tell" your story in ACID.
3. Create a musical bed for your story using ACID loops. 
4. Add your sound effects in as many different tracks as needed. 

Criteria 
Story must be at least 2-3 paragraphs in length
The musical bed must contain at least 10 loops. 
You must show volume and pan changes
You must edit one loop using the Chopper Function
You must use the Pitch Shift function on at least one loop
Render the final product as a MP3

You can search online for a story/poem OR write your own

*Horror and/or Sci-Fi stories will work the best* 

Due - Friday May 2, 2008


Sound Forge Assignment # 2
1. Go to the Music Tech network folder and listen to the various movie speeches.

2. Make a new speech by taking words or phrases from the various movie speeches. 

3. Use at least three effects in the final product. Your choice which ones and where. 

4. File length - 3:00 minutes or longer

5. Save final product as an MP3 into your network folder. 

Be creative and have fun!!
Due Date: Friday April 11, 2008

Sound Forge Assignment #1
1. 3 Songs of your choice
2. Open song in Sound Forge
3. Using Markers (M on keyboard) label the verse, chorus, bridge, solo, etc in your song
4. After marking your song. Re-arrange the song using the marked sections.
5. Save file as an MP3 - named  SF1, SF2, SF3
6. Save to your network folder

Digital Audio and The Apple IPOD
Assignment due Friday March 21, 2008

This research assignment will be about Apple’s IPOD and its impact on music and society. 

Criteria for Assignment:  
1. 30 slide PowerPoint or Website.
            PowerPoint must include the following:
           
30 slides – If you want to make more that is fine.
            Photos – to support your topics and information
           
2. Topics to be included but not limited to:
           
The Development of the IPOD
           
Changes the IPOD over the years. Each generation of IPOD, video, etc.
            IPOD’s impact on society
            IPOD’s impact on the music industry
            IPOD’s impact on clothing
            IPOD’s impact on education
            IPOD’s impact on Pop Culture
            Why is the IPOD so popular? Why does everyone need to have one? 


Master Tracks Assignment # 2 Rhythm Section 
File must be 12  bars in length
Must use at least 5 tracks
1. Drums
2. Piano or Keyboard (Take from C Blues file)
3. Bass
4. Melody/Solo

2. Practice parts before you record. This will save you time and frustration.

Master Tracks Assignment #  1 Remix
Due Friday February 29, 2008

What is a remix? - A remix is an alternate mix of a song different from the original version. It may incorporate elements of dance music. It is often used to create an upbeat version of a song for playing by disc jockeys in nightclubs.

1.Take one of the MIDI files below, save it to your network folder and open it in Master Tracks.

2. Once the MIDI file has been opened in Master Tracks you need to add a bass track and a drum track. 

3. You must change the patch (sound) in the bass track. (See below)

Changing the patch in Master Tracks
Go into the piano roll editor F3
On the bottom of the window you will see a yellow triangle




Click and drag the yellow triangle to the measure you want the patch (sound) to change. Release the mouse and the change instruments window will appear



Select a new instrument and now the track will have a patch (sound) change.

2. Select a style 
3. Practice C Blues Scale - C - Eb - F - Gb - G - Bb - C
Listen to the C Blues Scale
4. Click Record the window below will appear 
 
5.  Click on "Record" when ready. 
6.  Record your melody
7.  When you stop recording. The following window will appear

Click - OK Keep Take or Take Again to re-record.

The subject of your next commercial will be a product.
1. You can select an existing product OR create one from scratch
You must complete the Commercial Worksheet

 Criteria for Commercial Assignment #2  
1. Commercial can be completed using ACID PRO 4.0 
2. Commercial must be exactly 45 seconds in length.
3. Commercial must have an original music bed. Meaning no CD’s 
4. Any sound effects that you use MUST be created from scratch and you must complete a sound effects write-up form for each effect used.
5  The music bed must show volume and pan envelopes. 
6. Script must be original and not copied from any other source.
7. Final product must be rendered as an MP3 and saved to your network

Commercial Assignment # 1  "Music Tech Fest"

Introduction to Radio Commercials
In a single week, radio reaches more than 228 million Americans. 
That's 94 percent of everyone age 12 and older, according to Arbitron.
Your brain simply LOVES jingles! Seriously, the human brain recognizes a musical phrase with up to 400 times the recall of a simple spoken phrase.

We recognize our favorite songs playing in a noisy background, but can’t hear the announcement over the PA in the same room.

We recognize a familiar TV commercial from another room in the house, but have no idea what television program is on.
