This class will explore how to create music using various software applications. 
In this class you will be creating your own songs, editing MP3, creating techno/dance mixes, Podcasts and more! You must be able to work independently and on your own.

Mixcraft Assignment # 7 - Sound Effects Story
 
Sound Effects Story
Using parts of a short story or poem you will "tell" the story or poem using only sound effects and music. NO WORDS
1. Review your story or poem and make a list of all words/phrases you want to enhance using sound effects. 
2. Using the sound effects "tell" your story in Mixcraft
3. Create a musical bed for your story using Mixcraft loops. No pre-recorded music 
4. Add your sound effects in as many different tracks as needed. 

Criteria 
Story must be at least 2-3 paragraphs in length
The musical bed must contain at least 15 loops. 
You must show volume and pan changes

Render the final product as a MP3

You can search online for a story/poem OR write your own
Examples of Stories

*Horror and/or Sci-Fi stories will work the best*

Mixcraft Assignment # 6 Remix
A remix is an alternative version of a song, made from an original version. In this assignment you will take an acapella track from the Music Tech I Network folder "Remix" and load it into Mixcraft. Then create your own remix of the song using any style of music you want.
Criteria
1. You must use one (or more ) of the Acapella's provided
2. You must use at least 15 loops
3. You must show volume changes
4. You must use at least 2 audio effects - You choice where and what
5. Length - can not be shorter than the original file length.
Final Product must be "Mixed Down" to an MP3
This assignment will be uploaded to the Music Tech Website MP3 Player!

Criteria
1. File must be at least 3 minutes in length. Longer is acceptable
2. File must contain at least 15 loops.
3. You must show volume changes (Green line inside the loop)
4. You must include at least 2 audio effects. Your choice which ones and where they are used.
5. Final product must be "Mixed Down" as a MP3 file. You can save it and download it to your iPod or MP3 player

Sound Forge Assignment # 3 - Audio History Project

Audio History Project

This assigment will be an Audio History Project for any musical group and/or artist you wish.

The project will include pictures and audio examples to present an historical prospective.

Criteria

Project will be completed using Windows Movie Maker and Sound Forge

Length: between 3-5 minutes in length. No shorter than 3 minutes.

Pictures: At least 15 pictures - more if needed

Music: Do not use complete songs. Edit multiple songs to create the soundtrack.
NO Full length songs can be used.

Optional: Narration using the USB Microphones

Helpful Hints!

Be organized and research your group and/or artist.

Use video transititions to enhance your project

Use Sound Forge to edit and complie your music.

Don't waste time!!

Sound Forge Assignment # 2 - "Movie Speech"

1. Go to the Music Tech Network folder and/or the Internet and listen to various movie and historical speeches
.
2. Make a new speech by taking works or phrases from the various speeches to create a new speech.

3. Use at least three audio effects in the final product. Your choice which effects and where you use them.

4. You must use at least 3 different speeches to create the new speech.

5. File length - 3:00pm minutes or longer

6. Save final product as an MP3 into your network folder.

Sound Forge Assignment # 1 - Editing
Import 4-5 songs into Sound Forge.
Cut copy and paste sections from each of the songs you selected to create one long file
 
Criteria for Sound Forge Assignment # 1
1. Length of file must be between 2:30 and 3:00 minutes long
2. Must include at least 4 Fade Ins and 4 Fade Outs - Your choice where to use them
3. Must include 5 audio effects. Your choice of what effects and where to use them
4. Final File save as Sound Forge # 1 into your network folder
 
DO NOT use clips from your 4-5 songs longer than 15 seconds. Full credit will be not given if your final file has clips longer than 15 seconds.
Be creative and Have Fun.

2. Edit MP3 files - Cut, copy and paste to create a new arrangement of song
3. Add audio effects
4. Add Fade in and Fade out
5. Add Markers into file - Click "M" on computer keyboard
6. Save files as MP3
Be creative - Have fun. Nothing needs to be saved at this point. All of the above will prepare you for the upcoming Sound Forge Assignments.

Mixcraft Assignment # 3 Rhythm Section
Over the past week you have learned about drum beats, bass lines and chords. Now you will put it all together in this assignment. For Mixcraft Assignment # 3 Rhythm Section you will be creating a Rhythm Section (Drum Set, Bass, Guitar/Keyboard ) from scratch.
Criteria for Mixcraft Assignment #3 Rhythm Section
1. Length: - Each track must be 24 measures long
2. Sounds: Can be any sounds (patches) you wish.
3. Volume Changes - you must show volume changes using the volume line (Green Point)
4. Final Product will be mixed down as a MP3 - Go to File - then click on Mixdown to - select MP3
 
Helpful Hints:
1. Practice your parts first before recording. This will save you time!
2. Listen to your friends projects. This will give you ideas if you are stuck on what to play.

Basslines in Mixcraft
 
1. C Blues File - Download into your network folder then open in Mixcraft.
2. Use the notes (C,D, E, F, G) on the piano pictured below

3. Practice playing whole notes (4 beats per note) for the entire progression below.
4. This will take some time. Don't get frustrated.
5. Record when you feel ready. The more you practice first the easier the recording will be.

Mixcraft Assignment # 1 - Phatty Drum Beats!
Record a drum loop consisting of the following:
1. Bass Drum
2. Snare Drum
3. Cymbals
4. (optional) - TomToms, hand claps, Hammer of Thor! etc
Length: 10 Seconds
Loop Created: 30 Seconds
Loop must contain at least one effect
Loop must show volume change (hint - Green line, add points)
 
Drum Loop must be in time - Use the metronome
Drum Loop can be any style you wish
Practice first before recording. This will save you time.

Create 4 separate jam studio songs in each of the following forms

Song 1 - (ABAB)
Song 2 - (AABA)
Song 3 - ABA Form
Song 4 - Other (not the same as 1-3)

Each section in each song needs to be AT LEAST 8 bars long.

Sections need to have different instruments/loops between them.

Bonus: Include and introduction/ending in addition to regular form
Example: Intro-A-A-B-A-Ending

Save your files as:
Your class period Ex. Per4 with Your initials and either 1, 2, 3, 4 for which song file it is.
Ex - Per4AA1

You must save 4 files on the public share folder for this assignment.

Remember you are sharing these songs not only with me but with the world so submit your best work possible.
