Jaws - John Williams - The Greatest two notes in Movie Music History!

"To create an undertone of suspense, John Williams used the now-famous two-note motif that features an asecending semitone. This pattern begins almost inaudibly in the lowest sounding instruments of the orchestra, and slowly grows in volume until it become part of the rhythmically driven ostinato pattern. The end result is a main theme that conveys both excitment and danger. Throughout the film the two note motif is used as an early warning of the shark's appearances. In one scene, where some kids try to scare a crowd of swimmer into believing that the shark is nearby, the two note idea is not used; but moments later, when this foolish prank turns into the real thing, the motif makes its presence felt.

For the scene in which tourists arrive on Amity Island, Williams used a Baroque-style piece in a lighthearted mood that is in striking contrast with the rest of the score. For the scenes at sea in which the three hunters search for the shark, the music becomes aggressively dramatic."
