Biography
of A.W. Smith
Torrington
High School Music Teacher - 1927-1945
Mr.
Smith attended Shelter Island, Long Island, schools until the
start of his college career at Cornell University. He received a
Master of Arts degree and later pursued his studies at Columbia
University and the National Music Camp in Interlocken, Michigan.
After
teaching in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Huntington High School and Stony
Brook School for Boys in Long Island, Mr. Smith spent seventeen
years at Torrington High School. Among the many things which
Mr. Smith did to further our school's orchestra, he directed nine
annual concerts - all successes.
He is
now a teacher at Shelter Island High and is there connected with the
school orchestra.
